The rain poured heavily as the raven-haired girl made her way to the nearest pokemon center. Tears streamed down her face as she held her pokeballs close to her heaving chest. She was thoroughly soaked from the sudden downpour that smeared the sky. Her clothes began to stick in the summer heat, and felt very uncomfortable. There was a feint light up ahead the path, as she rounded a dirt corner she saw the illuminating light of the pokemon center. She gasped in relief and sped through the now gliding doors, almost running into them.
“Umm... hello?” Marilynn called to an empty desk. She called once more and there was still no answer. She tapped her feet in impatience and worried that there might not be anyone there. She sighed a few times before giving up, and walked across the room to sit down. Not five minutes later a familiar red-haired nurse made her appearance behind the front counter, followed by the most beautiful man Marilynn had ever seen. His red, lengthy hair, bounced lightly at his shoulders as he walked, wearing what appeared to be engineering work clothes, and behind black-rimmed specs, were the greenest, most mesmerizing eyes Marilynn had ever gazed into.
His velvet voice broke the prolonged comfortable silence she enjoyed, “Thanks a lot Joy, man these trainers get tougher every freaking day.” He ended his sentence in a gentle laugh and waved goodbye to nurse and turned to look at his awestruck admirer. He merely gazed at her in confusion, and his eyes seemed to scatter about. Again his velvety voice broke her conversation.
“Uh, Do I have something on my face?” He pointed his index finger just above the left corner of his lip and scratched
“Uhhh umm, yea-NO uh WHAT?”, she stammered. Marilynn was beat red by this moment, embarrassed that she had been caught staring. She wanted to be anywhere but there. Home, Sandgem, even being lost in that cave again would be better than this. She never was good under pressure. She looked at her feet, refusing to turn her gaze anywhere else. ‘How could I be so stupid’ she thought to herself.
“Well okay then,” he said walking closer to the door, “thanks again nurse Joy” and with a buzzing sound he was gone.
Several moments passed and Marilynn sat there, not daring to move. A warm touch on her shoulder broke her out of her self-containment. “Is there something I can help you with dear?” asked a concerned Nurse Joy.
Gathering her thoughts quickly, she remembered her reason for being there. “My pokemon are injured, I got lost in the mine across town, then I was stuck in the rain trying to get here.” She handed the three pokeballs to Nurse Joy.
Joy merely smiled and took the pokeballs to the incubator machine behind the counter. She gently laid each ball in a spot. “Why don’t you go take a nice bath and get some rest, I promise your pokemon will be good as new in the morning.”
“Thanks.” was all Marilynn managed to get out. She was still recovering from her momentary lapse in intelligence. Blushing from the memory, she quickly grabbed her backpack and headed up the stairs to one of the rooms. The room was nice and plain, there was a slide-open door with a balcony, a queen size bed, a dresser and a television in the center of the room. She didn’t to examine the room any longer, after it all it was only plain, ‘like me’ she thought. She walked into the bathroom. She turned the water to hot, and it begun to fill the tub. She waited in front of the mirror, and examined herself. Apart from the mud and grime from the hours she was lost in the cave, nothing about her person stood out to her. She had back length raven-black hair, purple eyes that looked anywhere but at themselves. A narrow chin, slim nose, nice average curvature. Nothing out of the ordinary. She sighed, “I wish I was extraordinary.” and she remembered back the gorgeous man she was in the presence of twenty minutes ago. Her stomach flipped, and her rose blush returned again. The water was nearly to the top, she quickly stopped the faucet and climbed in. The scalding water did wonders for her knotted back She sighed in relief, grateful to have found her way out of that horrid cave.
Within an hour she was out of the bath and in bed, ready for sleep. “You’re the only one I love, Marilynn.” The wonderful man kissed her lightly as she embraced him, pulling him into her.
